  • Summer Theater - Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit

    The Waseca Community Education Children’s Summer Theater production involves students with an interest in acting, costumes, makeup, props, stage managing, lighting, and sound. This class is open to students who are currently in grades 4-8 during the 2024-2025 school year. Informational Meeting: Students are required to attend ONE of the meetings and audition times; parents are encouraged to come along. The informational meetings will be held on Monday, May 12th at 3:10 pm and Tuesday, May 13th at 3:10 pm in the Waseca High School Performing Arts Center. Auditions will follow the informational meetings. Rehearsals: Monday - Friday, starting June 3 and running through June 26: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Waseca High School Performing Arts Center. Performances: Friday, June 27 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 pm Participation fee includes a cast t-shirt. This event is made possible in part by grant funds from the Waseca Area Foundation.

    This camp will energize and excite students by combining the LEGO® building system's versatility and the Mindstorms EV3 (the most sophisticated microcomputer brick ever made by LEGO®). Working in teams, students will construct fun LEGO® models, experiment with programs, and compete in robotic challenges. Robot building, block programming, and teamwork will be part of each day's activities. The final challenge will be a sumo battle. Please bring lunch and a drink.

We’ll also get to take pictures of the community, go on nature tours, and even create beautiful creations for local businesses!

    Babysitter's Class

    Grades 6 & up Receive training to be a responsible babysitter. You will learn how to interview for a babysitting job; how to handle emergencies; select safe, age-appropriate activities; feed and dress infants and toddlers; perform basic first aid skills and use manikins to learn rescue breathing techniques. Participants will receive reference materials to take home and will earn a certificate upon completion of the entire session. Must attend both classes. Please bring a snack.

    Grades 3 - 6 Prepare your child for the responsibility of being home alone. This course will teach them how to respond safely to a variety of situations when direct adult guidance isn't available. Participants will practice appropriate responses to answering the phone and door; discuss internet, kitchen and fire/gun safety; learn basic first aid skills and personal safety techniques; and much more. All participants will receive a reference guide to take home.

Children will learn how to use levers, pulleys and gears in order to build projects such as carousels, drawbridges and conveyor belts. This class offers great hands-on learning opportunities for the beginner. This course will expand your child’s knowledge of science and math concepts such as levers, pulleys and gears. Kids will gain confidence in his/her ability to understand how simple machines work. They will build projects including a crane, catapult and race car. Cost includes a Lego treat for you to take home!

  • Canvas Creations!

    You will have fun painting with your friends. Start with a blank canvas and acrylic paints and learn the basics about brush strokes, mixing paint and basic painting techniques. This will be an enjoyable time to paint with friends! You will bring home three creations at the end of class. Display them as stand-alone or as companion pieces. All materials are supplied. Aprons are available, but we suggest that you dress accordingly as acrylic paints do not wash out of clothes.

Students will take home their completed world files at the end of class. Beginners and experienced Minecrafters alike will love this action-packed camp! We will be using the PC/Java edition of Minecraft. Bring a USB drive, lunch and a drink.

    For 6-10 year-old group: Parents—have you wanted your kids to have some basic lifesaving skills? Even smaller children can help save lives when someone is bleeding! In this class, we will talk about different kinds of bleeding and what your child can do to help a family member or others in case there is life threatening bleeding. Your child will have the opportunity to practice bandaging and even practice using tourniquets. For the 11-17 year-old group: A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. We've all seen it happen too often—on the news or in everyday life. Life-threatening bleeding can happen in people injured in serious accidents or disasters. Instead of being a bystander, you can become an immediate responder because you know how to STOP THE BLEED! You will gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly to help control the bleeding. You will have the opportunity to practice bandaging and learn how to use tourniquets. You can make a difference for family members, friends or even strangers!!

However, when the Bear Family accuses her of breaking and entering, robbing them of their favorite meal and property damage, it looks like Goldi might be in over her head. The only problem for the Bear Family is everyone loves Goldi! Will they be able to convince a jury of their peers that she isn’t as sweet and innocent as she seems? Join us in this thrilling whodunnit to figure out who exactly broke into the Bear Family’s home, ate their porridge, sat in all their chairs, and slept in her beds! Both sides will have to remember their days exactly as they happened to prove that they are right. In the end, will Goldi be found guilty, or will the Bear Family’s case against her be dismissed?
